Character Boxer
Description
Get it on RedBubble
After reading George Orwell's Animal Farm, I was inspired by the character Boxer's steadfast tenacity. From early dawn and well into dusk, he would work with blind determination. I admire that quality in others, which is probably why I ended up including one of his personal motto's in my work.
I drew the pencil sketch on the back of an old paint-by-number piece of nice sturdy cardboard. The rest was inked using a back Pentel R.S.V.P. 'Fine' pen. The project took around nine hours. Whew! Six of those were dedicated to the inking, which I did all today.
I referenced Boxer's pose from a Breyer horse model I have in my small collection. I had to use some Clydesdale pictures too from the internet, since the model horse was a Quarter Horse and Boxer is some breed of draft horse. My encyclopedia of horse breeds also came in handy for referencing. The harness system pictured here came from this particular image. I had to use some imagination there, since Orwell doesn't explicitly say what equipment Boxer used to pull those stones or plow the fields. A simple rope seemed like a stretch. I imagine the pigs and other animals could help him get the parts on shown here.

I admire that quality in others as well.
